Nothing is more distressing to animal rescue volunteers than those pets they've been unable to place in homes. It's a case of supply outpacing demand, but unlike a retail business, this excess at rescue shelters means the possible euthanizing of unwanted animals.
The One Step Animal Rescue (O.S.C.A.R.), a non-profit rescue in Sparta, sent an urgent plea for two dogs currently for adoption. Each week, this facility rescues homeless animals -- this week it plans to shelter 16 more. Every dog that is rescued, allows the shelter is able to save another.
Here are two dogs in desperate need of a loving home. If you can open your heart and home to one -- or both -- call 973-652-3969, e-mail lilfurryanimals@yahoo.com or visit www.OscarAnimalRescue.org.

Adopt today and reduce the number of homeless pets tomorrow
Every week I hope not to have anything to post on this blog. Why, you may ask? Because if all of the homeless animals in Morris County finally find loving homes, the job would be done.
Unfortunately, too many pets remain without forever families. Thankfully, there are teams of dedicated volunteers and shelter staff members who dedicate their time to placing these animals. One such group are those affiliated with Eleventh Hour Rescue. Here are a few more pets available for adoption. Can you find it in your heart to give just one of them a home?

This is a face you can't help but love. Meet Sedona from Eleventh Hour Rescue. She is a very young and very adorable pit bull mix. This little 15-pound-bundle of joy is about 2 months old ,so she has a lot more growing to do and therefore will get much bigger. She likes to cuddle and give lots of generous kisses. She plays well with other dogs, bigger ones, too. She is well-ehaved and will easily go into her crate for nap time. To read more about Sedona, to see all of EHR's pets, to check upcoming events or to make a donation, visit www.ehrdogs.org or call 973-664-0865. |
Here’s Catfish from Eleventh Hour Rescue. This handsome Southern gentleman is a Red Bone Coonhound mix that is about 7 years old. He was found as a stray with a broken leg and starving. He has fully recovered and he is ready to find his permanent home now. Although most likely used as an outdoor hunting dog previously, he has settled in very well at the home of his foster mom and he loves the company of people. He will run and play with other dogs outside, but he is also content to stay by your side once play time is over. To read more about Catfish, to see all of EHR's adoptable pets, to check upcoming events or to make a donation, please visit www.ehrdogs.org or call 973-664-0865. |
This is Sinclair from Eleventh Hour Rescue. He is a very unique combination of Border Collie/Pit Bull mix. He has fantastic grey-and-white markings and medium length soft fur like a Border Collie, yet he also has the big, chubby head of a Pit Bull. This young man, less than 2 years old, draws attention everywhere he goes. Everyone stops to say hello to him and inquire as to his breed. He is very friendly, playful, outgoing and energetic. He loves to play with a tennis ball. He has a very cute pouncing maneuver as he chases about the ball. When he’s done romping around, he’ll jump up on the bench next to you. This medium-sized dog would be happy to come home with you today. To read more about Sinclair, to see all of EHR's adoptable pets, to see our upcoming events or to make a donation, visit www.ehrdogs.org or call 973-664-0865. |

Adopt a pet now, take a walk together this weekend
It's supposed to be fairly good weather this coming weekend. What better way to start it off by adopting a pet to take those walks in the park or along a beach with you this summer? Eleventh Hour Rescue has several homeless animals for adoption. Check them out:
Here is Elly Mae from Eleventh Hour Rescue. This special 3-year-old girl has the cutest ears. They stick straight up like two satellite dishes pointed in your direction and ready to listen in for your every command. What’s not to love about them? She is smart, attentive and affectionate. This pretty girl is everyone’s favorite at adoption events, but she has yet to find that “one and only” family to love her and take her home. To read more about Elly Mae, to see all of EHR's adoptable pets, to see upcoming events or to make a donation, visit www.ehrdogs.org or call: 973-664-0865. |
John Boy is a 3-year-old black Lab/Border Collie mix. Other than sharing his name with a famous Walton from a TV show, John Boys’ claim to fame is that he can jump. He can jump so high he can touch the sky. It’s as if he’s jumping on a trampoline, but he’s doing it without any equipment. Full of energy, this boy loves to run and play so a generously sized backyard with a VERY high fence would be ideal. He has a soft mouth like a Retriever and takes treats very gently. Although a bit shy at first, he will quickly warm up to you. Please adopt him, and at bedtime every night you can say “Good Night John Boy”. To read more about him, to see all of EHR's adoptable pets, to see upcoming events or to make a donation, visit our www.ehrdogs.org or call: 973-664-0865. |
Meet Banjo, the perfect beagle mix from Eleventh Hour Rescue. We were lucky enough to interview him before he headed out for a car ride, which is one of his favorite things to do. Here is what he had to say: “My name is Banjo and I'm around 2 years old. I'm a small guy, weighing in around 25 pounds, but I was told good things come in small packages! I'm originally from Georgia and these nice kind folks from New Jersey rescued me before I was going to be put to sleep. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but it doesn't sound too good. I'm not your typical beagle. I'm pretty low key. I love to hang with other dogs and I love to explore. I have a great sniffer! I'm good on leash, house-trained, crate-trained and not destructive at all. I'm not a big barker either - I know beagles get a bad rap for that! I also passed basic obedience with flying colors. I know many commands which I can thank my foster mom for - she's a trainer! If you're in the market for the perfect Beagle, then I would love to join your family”. Jack is a loveable mutt in desperate need of help
Jack is a delightful dog who deserves a break. He currently is being housed at a high-kill shelter in North Carolina. He needs immediate foster care. Can you help? |
Yesterday, I talked about a story of pet adoption that had a happy ending. Today, I'd like to encourage someone to step forward to help me write another by offering a safe haven to Jack, a 7-year-old Collie mix in urgent need of foster care.
Jack is a friendly and loving dog that remains in an over-populated high-kill shelter. He walks with a limp after being hit by a car. As a result, Jack has a dislocated hip on one side, with some degeneration in the joint. Jack's other hip is deteriorating, too. Despite those challenges, Jack remains mobile. His vet and shelter workders say he is a gentle dog with a very good disposition.
Jack has some other health issues that need attention. He is Heartworm-positive and needs medication immediately. Another problem is that Jack has a problem with his testicles, which may later lead to cancer without treatment. This is not an immediate danger, but the condition needs attention.

In the meantime, Furever Home Dog Rescue in Randolph has set up an emergency "donation fund" to help with Jack's medical needs. They hope to correct some of Jack's medical problems so that he is more likely to be adopted. The goal is $1,000. To donate, visit the Lenoir (NC) County SPCA. Scroll down to "donate today" and add Jack's name in the note section. No PayPal account is required.
Anyone who can foster Jack or give him a loving home, should e-mail FureverHomeRescue@att.net.
The group's volunteers foster the dogs and pups in their homes once they have been vetted and transported here from NC. Visit Furever Home Dog Rescue to see how the adoption process works.
