Local writer Janine Mellini is the former author of the popular "Paw Prints" blog, Rescue Me Morris! photo gallery and Rescue Tales pages previously published in a daily Morris County newspaper. Her new blog, PetsFurRescue, picks up where that blog and those pages left off by providing ongoing news and items of interest about local rescue groups, animal shelters, pet-related events, pets and pet people, while also posting current photos and information about pets available for adoption in Morris County and surrounding areas. Have pet news or want to post pets for adoption, send me the information and photos at petsfurrescue@yahoo.com.

Morris County shelters have many pets for adoption

The warmer months ahead are a good time to consider adopting a pet. The local shelters have many from which to select. Here are a few that currently are available for adoption. Do you see your new best friend below?

Kassie is a little bundle of joy. She is a new arrival at Furever Home Dog Rescue in Randolph. She is about 10 to 11 weeks old and is a labrador/shepherd mix with a beautiful soft coat that is a mix of brown and black. Kassie's personality is as adorable as her appearance. She has a lot of love to give. If you have a "furever" home for Kassies, request an adoption application by e-mailing FureverHomeRescue@att.net.

DONATIONS NEEDED:  Lady Bug from Eleventh Hour Rescue is going blind and needs expensive cataract surgery now to restore her eye sight.  “Lady Bug” is a tiny black poodle that lives up to her name!
Lady Bug had a wonderful home in Georgia, but her owner found herself homeless and shelters do not allow dogs. Poor Lady Bug was given to a hoarder who already had 16 dogs and 16 cats and could not take care of all of them.  When she arrived at Eleventh Hour Rescue, her coat was badly matted and she was in need of a grooming. After her “day at the spa”, our volunteers could not believe it was the same dog.
Lady Bug is senior girl around 9 years old, weighs less than 10 pounds, spayed, up-to-date on her shots, and gets along other dogs. She is large enough to go up and down stairs (and jump off the couch), but small enough to be the 'lap dog' companion. Lady Bug loves the attention of being a "'pocketbook pooch."  Her gentle and loving nature will melt your heart.

Meet Smiley from Eleventh Hour Rescue.  She earned that name because she always has a smile on her face.  She is about 3 years old and is a hound/lab/shepherd mix.  Smiley is a very gentle, sweet girl who just wants to sit by your side or on your lap and get a nice belly rub.  She is very passive and submissive and would easily fit into any home situation.  She would be especially easy for a first time dog owner to adopt.  To read more about Smiley, to see all adoptable dogs, to see upcoming events, or to make a donation, visit  www.ehrdogs.org.
